NaBloPoMo 16: Dads

So today is my father’s birthday. It hasn’t always been easy between us. I suppose that is true for many. Parents have to parent and kids have to be kids those are often at odds. I wasn’t an easy kid, he wasn’t an easy parent. I’m pretty sure he’d agree…

My dad and I have come a long way over the years, and what I respect most about him is his willingness to be human. He’s really smart, and he let’s me think I am too. I love that we can challenge each other, and still share a bottle of wine. He’s fallible and makes mistakes and owns them. And when I make mistakes, he calls me on it. But what he wants, more than anything in the world, is the best for his children, and even better for his grandchildren.

Happy Birthday, Daddy…I love you!

Amazing as how we become adults and the relationship changes and you get so much closer. Cherish the moments.

Happy Birthday to your dad… I remember him well. And you had the coolest basement to gather and watch movies in (just a random thought that popped into my head when thinking about us growing up. Vivid memory of Stripes played repeatedly.)
