NaBloPoMo 7: Wisdom from the Silver Screen

I’m not a huge movie-goer. If I get a night out I usually don’t want to sit silently in the dark. I end up wiating for the DVD.

But we have a lot to learn from the movies. Here, from some of my favorite movies and in no particular order, are some of my favorite lines to live by:

Stripes: “An army without leaders is like a foot without a big toe.”

So I Married an Axe Murderer: “Come, let’s dance like children of the night!”

The Princess Bride: “You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous of which is “never get involved in a land war in Asia,” but only slightly less well-known is this: “Never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!” (But also: “Have fun stormin’

When Harry Met Sally: “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

A League of Their Own: “There’s no crying in baseball.”

Airplane: “I piac

And somewhere it was said that everything you need to know can be found in the Godfather, so…

The Godfather: “…don’t ever take sides with anyone against the family…”

The Godfather II: “Good health is the most important thing. More than success, more than money, more than power.”

The Godfather III: “Just when I thought I was out, the pull me back in.”

P.S. A quick addition in honor of our elections, I offer you this from The American President:

A. J. MacInerney (Martin Sheen): The President doesn’t answer to you, Lewis!
Lewis Rothschild (Michael J. Fox): Oh, yes he does A.J. I’m a citizen, this is my President.
And in this country it is not only permissible to question our leaders it’s our responsibility!

President Shepherd (Michael Douglas):

America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.

One of my favourite movies (of late) is The Artist. It’s a silent film, so I won’t quote you any lines – but that was one film I think was worth watching on the big, big screen. ~Catherine

I hadn’t thought about those lines from “The American President” in such a long time! I also love the quote from “When Harry Met Sally.” Have you ever seen “Cold Comfort Farm”? A funny flick! Thanks for the memories…
